My Blood Oath Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Blood Oath by Morgan B. Lee is a steamy, twisty launch to the Cursed Legacies series—a dark-academia, academy-set paranormal romance with a strong “reverse harem” twist. The story centers on Maven, a human-born enchantress who enrolls late at Everbound University—a mandatory academy for the magical descendants of the Four Houses (“Legacies”), all cursed by ancient gods. Each year, a ceremony matches Legacies into “quintets,” groups of five who (with luck and chemistry) might break their curses. But Maven wants nothing to do with it—she has her own secret agenda and believes her involvement would end in disaster for anyone bonded to her. Fate has other plans: Maven is matched with four of the school’s most powerful, dangerous, and captivating Legacies—a blood Fae with a scary-soft side, a persistent dragon shifter, a protective ice elemental, and a twisted (but obsessed) nightmare prince. Instead of acceptance, she rejects them for their own good...but the more she pushes, the harder they chase. As secrets, curses, and threats escalate, Maven must choose between her clandestine mission and the found family she never wanted but might desperately need.
Why I Love This Book
I love the energy and bite to this story—Maven is sharp, darkly funny (think Wednesday Addams), and far from your average “why-choose” heroine. The worldbuilding is creative and keeps the academy setting feeling both familiar and new, with house rivalries, ancient curses, and high-stakes supernatural intrigue. The romance is a medium-burn “reverse rejected mates” twist: the heroine is doing the rejecting (for her own secret reasons), while the four heroes refuse to take “no” for an answer. Each love interest brings something distinct—obsession, violence, banter, devotion—and readers who enjoy obsessed MMCs, fated mates, and forced proximity will find plenty to swoon over. The plot keeps things moving with twists, secrets, and a hefty dose of danger, while the high heat delivers everything the genre promises—with bonus female dominance/switch dynamics for those wanting something outside of the typical formula. The book ends on an intense cliffhanger, leaving me desperate for the sequel.
Who Will Like This Book
If you love academy settings, dark paranormal romance, and the “why-choose”/reverse harem genre—especially with a snarky, macabre heroine and a possessive male cast—this is your next obsession. Ideal for fans of The Bonds That Tie or Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac who want curse lore, fate, and found family with a spicy edge.
⚠️ Trigger warnings: explicit sexual content and BDSM elements, violence, sexual abuse, emotional trauma, PTSD, mentions of torture and death, and dark secrets. This book is not for those seeking fade-to-black, low-angst, or “sweet” romance—it’s gritty, fast-paced, and unflinching in both heat and danger.
