My Bridesmaid for Hire Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
I picked up Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn because I love the enemies-to-lovers and fake dating tropes, especially when set in an over-the-top, hilarious environment. The story follows Maggie Mitchell, a workaholic event planner who finally lets herself take a vacation in Bora Bora. She expects sun and peace—until Brody McFadden, her brother’s best friend (and sworn nemesis), lands at the same resort for his boss's daughter’s high-profile wedding. Years of unresolved tension—sparked by a disastrous almost-moment at Maggie’s brother’s wedding—make their encounters anything but peaceful.
Circumstances force Maggie and Brody into a fake relationship: to land a career-changing gig as a last-second bridesmaid and planner, Maggie needs Brody to pose as her boyfriend. Brody, meanwhile, is desperate to impress his boss and clinch the professional break he’s been chasing. What’s supposed to be a simple deal soon explodes into chaos. The two end up sharing a bungalow, running interference for billionaire wedding guests, and trying to keep their simmering attraction under wraps. With dual points of view and a witty cast of side characters, the story is packed with mishaps, misunderstandings, and tropical antics leading up to the “wedding of the century.”
Why I Love This Book
I love how Bridesmaid for Hire keeps me laughing and rooting for Maggie and Brody from page one. The banter is sharp—every interaction drips with hilarious insults and barely-hidden longing. At its core, the story is about two flawed people who can’t admit how much they care. The fake dating is a riot; every attempt to act “cool and collected” only ends up tangled in embarrassment and desire.
I’m a sucker for well-written chemistry, and here it’s off the charts. The tension is equal parts funny and swoony. There’s a real emotional core too: Maggie has spent her life hustling for validation, while Brody masks vulnerability with sarcasm. Both have to let their guards down and risk more than just professional failure. The tropical setting and wedding chaos give everything a bright, wild energy, but the quieter scenes—awkward breakfasts, late-night confessions—deliver the biggest gut-punches. Even as things turn ridiculous, I always believe in their connection.
This is a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I love it for that. It’s outrageous, warm, and genuinely romantic.
Who Will Like This Book
If you want a spicy, fake-dating romcom with enemies-to-lovers fire, you’ll be hooked. The story is full of chaos: awkward family moments, wedding mishaps, and secondhand embarrassment are everywhere, but so are heartfelt moments and laugh-out-loud lines. If you need clever banter, dual POV, and fast-paced plotting, this is for you. The romance between Maggie and Brody is sweet, messy, and totally satisfying.
⚠️ Trigger warning: The book is a high-heat, open-door romance with explicit scenes and wild comic scenarios. There’s no major darkness or violence, but the comedy can dip into cringe/humiliation humor, so keep that in mind if you’re sensitive to that sort of secondhand embarrassment.
