My Consider Me Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Consider Me by Becka Mack is the steamy first entry in the Playing for Keeps hockey romance series. Carter Beckett is at the top of his game as the NHL’s best player—famous for his skill on the ice and his reputation as a notorious player off it. His charmed life shifts when he meets Olivia Parker, a teacher and the best friend of his teammate’s fiancée. Olivia knows Carter’s type and makes it clear she’s not interested in stroking any egos or risking heartbreak. Despite Carter’s relentless pursuit, Olivia keeps her distance, but the chemistry between them is impossible to ignore. As Carter sets out to win Olivia over, he faces more than just a challenge on the ice: he has to change for good if he wants her to even consider him. Their story is filled with banter, mutual friends, a melting romance, and all the intensity of high-stakes sports and new love.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this book takes the classic “reformed player” trope and makes it feel fun and big-hearted. Carter is over the top in the best ways—dorky, charming, and absolutely besotted once he sets his sights on Olivia. I connect with the mix of humor and swoon, and how the story combines sharp banter with genuine affection. Olivia never lets Carter get away with anything, and I appreciate her strength and determination to protect herself, even when she wants to give in. The scenes between Carter and Olivia are filled with playful tension, but my favorite part is how fiercely loyal and supportive their friends are—they bring warmth and depth to every chapter. I laughed, I swooned, and even when things felt a bit wild or dramatic, I wanted to keep reading. The book’s long length never drags; it lets the slow burn and sizzling chemistry breathe while still packing in enough plot to keep me hooked. By the end, I was completely sold on both the romance and the promise of more stories in this world.
Who Will Like This Book
If you love hockey romance, reformed bad boys, and heroines who don’t fall for charm on day one, you’ll be all in for this. It’s perfect for fans of banter, found family, and big, swoony moments where the hero works for his second chance. There’s a lot of heat and fun—plus supportive friendships and a team dynamic that makes the Vancouver Vipers feel like home. If you want a fast-paced, low-angst romance or fade-to-black, this isn’t for you; Consider Me leans into drama, steam, and plenty of page time to let the tension simmer. ⚠️ Trigger warning: This book contains explicit sexual content, references to past relationships and hookups, strong language, and adult themes. There’s a “third-act breakup” trope and some emotional push-pull, so check content warnings if you have sensitivities around these topics.
