My Games with the Orc Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
I picked up Games with the Orc by Kathryn Moon because I wanted something that pulled no punches—just wild, monster romance fun that doesn’t apologize for what it is. This is the first book in the Monster Smash Agency series. It’s about Sunny, a woman who’s been hiding what she wants from the world and from herself. After walking away from a safe but boring relationship, she finally gives herself permission to chase her most outrageous fantasies. That’s how she ends up booking time with Monster Smash Agency—and specifically with Khell’ar, the skilled and dangerously tempting orc specialist.
Khell’ar’s most important rule is to never form a mating bond with a client. His job is to deliver exactly what’s requested, but Sunny turns out to push all his limits. Their sessions grow wilder and more intense, and what starts as a paid fantasy quickly turns into something neither of them expect. The story races between desire, forbidden feelings, and the question of what it really takes to reclaim your own pleasure and power.
Why I Love This Book
I love the fearless honesty of this book. There’s a boldness to how Sunny embraces her desires, and the way the story gives her agency is empowering. I love reading about a heroine who’s plus-sized, messy, and not afraid to get what she wants—even when it scares her. The orc/human dynamic is written with care and humor, avoiding all the things that usually make these pairings feel weird or forced.
Every explicit scene serves a purpose—not just shock value, but exploration, growth, and even affection. The chemistry is explosive and the banter makes the characters feel alive. But honestly, the best part is how the book never shames anyone for what they want. Khell’ar is protective and sweet, not just dominating, and their emotional connection surprised me in the best way. The plot doesn’t get lost in the steam: there are real stakes, clever world-building, and just enough plot outside the bedroom to keep me turning pages.
I also have to mention the pacing and the structure—the dual point-of-view lets me see inside both heads, making everything feel personal. I never felt bored or lost; instead, I wanted more pages because the mix of humor, kink, and real feeling is just that good.
Who Will Like This Book
If you want monster romance with no shame, tons of heat, and a heroine who owns her story, you’ll love this. It’s for fans of forbidden romance, fated mates, and explicit BDSM power dynamics. If you like sweet, protective heroes who are still very much monsters, this is your match. The body positivity and humor give the book something extra that I rarely see in this genre.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book contains explicit BDSM, size differences, dominant/submissive play, and plenty of kink. It’s strictly for adult readers who are comfortable with graphic sexual content and non-traditional pairings. No major violence or dark triggers.
