My Him & Her Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Him & Her: A Game Served Spicy by Shelby Mitchell is a contemporary BWWM (Black Woman White Man) romance about two people with nothing in common except a stubborn streak and a serious spark. Nori Blackmon is sassy, curvy, and focused on her goals—success means everything and she’s not interested in being distracted by cocky men. Enter Micah James: a hotshot, successful video game designer who’s handsome, entitled, and used to getting his way. When Micah tries to hire Nori to cook for him, she’s not having it. Their initial clash is pure fireworks—banter, attitude, and tension that crackles. The more they bump heads, the more undeniable the attraction becomes, pushing both of them to question what they want from life, from love, and from each other. The story unfolds in a series of battles, challenges, and moments of vulnerability, all set against the fast-paced backdrop of ambition and adulting. This is book one of the series and ends on a cliffhanger, so be warned: Nori and Micah’s story doesn’t tie up with a neat bow by the last page.
Why I Love This Book
I love how real and stubborn both leads are. Nori feels authentic—her drive, her strength, and her refusal to settle or be intimidated ring true. The banter between Nori and Micah is smart and snappy, and I found myself grinning at the ways they try to one-up each other. Micah’s mix of cocky charm and hidden vulnerability is addictive; even when he’s being a jerk, I wanted to keep peeling back layers. I appreciate that the story doesn’t flatten Nori into a stereotype—she’s complicated, ambitious, and self-protective, and her confidence as a curvy Black woman is portrayed as a strength. Food and cooking are woven into their relationship, adding moments of comfort and connection. The steam is spicy, but the best thing is how much fun the book has with power dynamics, pride, and letting each character grow through conflict. There’s plenty of laugh-out-loud moments mixed with heartfelt beats, and by the end, it’s impossible not to root for both of them—even as I’m left needing the next book right away.
Who Will Like This Book

This is for readers who enjoy enemies-to-lovers tension, foodie romance, and a hero who’s arrogant but still pushes himself to be better. If you crave stories where both leads are ambitious and deeply flawed, or you want a curvy heroine who refuses to play small, this is a win. The story is fast-moving, witty, and doesn’t hold back on the spice.
