My King Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
King by T.M. Frazier is the dark romance opener for the notorious King Series. The story begins when a young woman wakes on the streets, homeless and without any memory of her identity. She calls herself Doe, desperate and alone. Searching for help, she ends up in the care of Brantley King, a career criminal just released from prison and fiercely loyal to his own found family. King lives by his own rules, running his world with equal parts violence and loyalty. As Doe tries to navigate this dangerous new life, her fate becomes tied to King’s. Secrets from her past, loyalty to friends, and dangerous enemies crash together in a fast-paced, gritty, and steamy read. T.M. Frazier crafts a story full of raw emotion, power imbalances, and high-stakes choices, all set in a world where survival is never guaranteed and love isn’t soft or simple.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this book is unapologetically dark. The story isn’t afraid to show violence, trauma, and heartbreak, then twist those elements into something passionate and gripping. I connect with Doe’s sense of being lost—her fear and desperation feel real, and her growth as she discovers her own strength keeps me rooting for her. King is unpredictable and brutal, but I find his loyalty and his deep wounds strangely moving. The tension between them is constant. I appreciate how their relationship pushes past comfort zones and makes each character question everything they know about love and survival. The writing is raw and unpolished, which fits the story’s mood. I like that the supporting cast add flavor, humor, and pain in equal parts. There’s nothing glossy or pretty here, but the emotional intensity makes it impossible to look away. Even parts that are hard to read feel right for these characters.
Who Will Like This Book
If you want a dark, gritty, high-stakes romance with morally gray characters, this is for you. You’ll like this book if you’re not afraid of violence, trauma, and controversial themes woven into your love stories. If you prefer your heroes irredeemable and damaged but loyal, and your heroines tough but vulnerable, this will keep you hooked. This story is not for someone who wants light angst or playful banter—this is an emotional gut punch full of messed-up choices.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book contains graphic violence, sexual assault (implied and explicit), dub-con, drug use, abuse, and other sensitive topics. Approach with caution and check trigger warnings if you have concerns.
