My Marriage & Masti Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Marriage & Masti by Nisha Sharma is the third and final installment in the “If Shakespeare Were an Auntie” series, this time giving a South Asian, friends-to-lovers twist on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Veera Mathur, a smart, ambitious woman reeling from the double blow of losing her father’s company and watching her best friend Deepak Datta get engaged, finds herself shipwrecked with her twin sister in India. When Deepak’s fiancée publicly breaks off their engagement, he rushes to Veera’s side—and after a few drinks and a fake marriage ceremony that turns out to be real, their plans and careers get unexpectedly tangled. Back in New York, Veera and Deepak must convince their meddling families and the corporate board their marriage is legit, even as fake feelings quickly start to feel painfully real. Amid the chaos of family drama, boardroom battles, and classic Bollywood shenanigans, both must decide if love is worth risking everything for.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this story is equal parts hilarious, dramatic, and heartfelt. Veera and Deepak are both strong on their own, but thrown together in this fake-but-not-fake marriage, their vulnerabilities and history make everything feel genuine. The cultural details—the wedding madness, overbearing aunties, and pressure from immigrant parents—add so much life to the story. Their friendship-turned-romance is built on banter, shared ambition, and true support. Watching Veera stand up for herself (finally!) and Deepak realize he’s always been in love with her is so satisfying. I also love the found family vibes, the support from their circle of married friends, and the ways the story calls out the struggles of successful women who aren’t married by a certain age. Even when the plot goes wild with drunken mistakes and family schemes, it stays grounded in love and respect. The emotional arc is as much about healing, ambition, and being seen as it is about romance—and the chemistry is off the charts.
Who Will Like This Book
If you love chaotic, messy romcoms with friends-to-lovers, fake marriage, and all the Bollywood drama you could hope for, you’ll love this story. It’s for readers who want laugh-out-loud banter, tight-knit friend groups, meddling families, and sharp observations on culture and career pressures. The book has spice and open-door romance, so expect explicit scenes. There’s also a ton of heart for anyone who’s ever felt left behind or underestimated.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book hits themes of family pressure, self-worth, corporate betrayal, and grief, but keeps the tone lively and full of hope. There’s explicit sexual content and plenty of spicy humor—definitely not a clean romance.

Steam Level
This romance is loaded with open door explicit scenes, high heat, and sizzling chemistry—every bit as bold and dramatic as the rest of the series. Expect the spice to be “clutch your pearls” level, making the emotional payoff even sweeter.
