Mr. Irrelevant Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Mr. Irrelevant by C.L. Rose tells the story of Maddox Dane, a talented quarterback who’s always been sidelined and labeled an underdog. When he’s drafted by Cleveland’s brand-new expansion team, the Rock City Renegades, he finally gets a shot at becoming a starter. But things don’t go smoothly—he struggles with confidence and performance. Livvy Grant, the team owner’s daughter, knows football inside and out. She steps in with secret coaching sessions to help Maddox find his groove. Their relationship evolves from professional to personal, and Maddox has to juggle his burgeoning career and his feelings—all while the future of the team hangs in the balance.
Why I Love This Book
I love how real the characters feel. I connect with Maddox’s struggle to prove himself. He’s not suave or sure, but his drive makes me root for him. I love Livvy’s strength. She’s smart, confident, and doesn’t let anyone question her place—even though the men around her often try. I enjoy their dynamic—how she coaches him, how he fights to meet her expectations, and how they both give and take control at different times. I love that the romance builds naturally. It’s not forced. It starts with coaching sessions and turns into something steamy and electric. I love that the setting—a new NFL team—adds real stakes. Career ambitions, legacy, family expectations—it’s all wrapped up with the tension of a football spotlight, and that mix pulls me in every time.
Who Will Like This Book
If you enjoy sports romance with high tension, underdog stories, and strong heroines who know their worth, you’ll like this book. It’s for readers who appreciate workplace romance, quarterback hero, owner’s daughter dynamics, and chemistry that builds from respect as much as desire.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book includes themes of professional pressure, underperformance, and possibly power dynamics in a workplace/personal relationship. I think it’s worth approaching with awareness.
