I felt every one of Veniche’s struggles, from wanting to break free of Dime’s control to yearning for something real with Najee. I’m here for a heroine who’s trying, even when she doesn’t have all the answers. Najee’s protective energy and the instant, sparking chemistry with Veniche brings real heart to this gritty story. There’s something about characters who choose each other as safe havens in the chaos of their lives that gets me every time.
The dialogue is sharp, the side characters bring extra life (shoutout to Veniche’s mom—she stole every scene), and the pace is non-stop.
