My Sweet Girl: A One Night With Cupid Novella Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
"Sweet Girl" by Jack Whitney is a short, explosive, and “one-night” adult novella set against the wild chaos of a Valentine’s Day singles event. The story follows Chloe, a hard-working woman who lands at the party reluctantly, agreeing to give her friend just an hour before she bails. While everyone tries awkwardly to win her over with cheesy lines and even cheesier candy hearts, none of it really gets through—until a sharp, charming guy calling himself Gavin catches Chloe’s attention at the bar. Gavin’s not just any party guest: he’s actually Cupid, centuries-old god of love, now running his own dating app, Cupid’s Arrow, and looking for a little mischief on his favorite night of the year. What follows is a novella packed with sparks, banter, and red-hot chemistry as Chloe and Gavin’s playful teasing turns quickly into something steamier and genuinely fun. Their encounter is all about the adrenaline—sweet, daring, and over much too soon, but with an undercurrent that there might be more if they cross paths again.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this novella doesn’t waste a second on filler—it jumps right into the heart of the action. The chemistry between Chloe and Gavin had me grinning and flipping pages fast. I love Chloe’s sharp wit and refusal to play games; she knows what she wants and isn’t shy about it, which feels refreshing. Gavin is playful but never smarmy, and the “Cupid as dirty-talking, tattooed billionaire” twist made me laugh and swoon at the same time. This book doesn’t shy away from heat—the spice is heady, open-door, and unapologetic, with just enough boundary-pushing to make it stand out. What also left a mark on me was how the story refuses to “fix” Chloe’s imperfections—instead, they’re celebrated, making for much sexier, realer moments.
I appreciate the little nods to messy real life—awkwardness, grumpy moods, doubts. The story is escapist, filthy, and gives a proper nod to body acceptance (stretch marks and all). The public flirtation, praise kink, and wild party atmosphere felt alive, and I could practically taste the naughty candy hearts. And even though it’s a quick read, the emotional connection and teasing banter made it memorable. I love books that deliver instant payoff but still leave me wanting to know what happens next, and "Sweet Girl" nails that feeling.
Who Will Like This Book
If you love spicy novellas you can finish in a sitting, this is for you. It’s a must-read if you’re here for steamy, dirty, fast-paced romance, especially stories with supernatural twists and bold heroines who own their sexuality. If “tattooed billionaire Cupid” and “Valentine’s Day party hookup” sound like your kind of fun, grab this one. It’s especially great if you want sex positivity (including visible body flaws) and enjoy instant attraction with lots of banter and open-door action. If you don’t mind cliffhangers or like books that serve as “origin stories” for a duet, you’ll appreciate the ride. This won’t be for you if you want slow burn, angst, or deep character arcs—it’s all about the sugar rush, and that’s exactly why I love it.
