My The Saviors: Part One Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
I wanted something gritty, dark, and unapologetically high-heat, so I picked up The Saviors: Part One by Ames Mills. This is the first book in the Forest Grove duet, and it throws me straight into a world where the so-called “Saviors” aren’t heroes. The crew is deeply embedded in the criminal underworld—they scheme, steal, and kill, and they wear their scars openly. Axel, the main character, returns to his hometown of Forest Grove with his closest allies, including Cole, to settle a score with his father. Coming back means confronting Chelsea, the girl he and Cole loved and left behind, hoping she’d be safer without them, only to find out she landed in the arms of someone far worse.
From the start, I feel a strong sense of broken loyalty and unfinished business. The fragile trust between old friends is tested as the Saviors wind up protecting the very person they once abandoned. There’s danger from every angle and tension that never lets up—alongside banter that cuts through the darkness. The book is written in multiple POVs, giving me different angles on all the emotional mess and desire. By the end, the stakes are sky high, and the book finishes on a cliffhanger, setting up the second part of the duet.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this book just lets messy emotions take over—there’s betrayal, regret, revenge, lust, and actual fear for the characters’ safety. The found family angle works; even though these people are damaged, their fierce loyalty to one another shines, and I care about how it will all shake out. The chemistry isn’t just between the girl and the men—male/male dynamics are just as raw and important, which builds a richer world.
The plot is tense and fast, but what really keeps me is the way heat and heart compete for space in every scene. There’s barely time to breathe between action, banter, and explicit encounters, but it never feels fake. The flaws are everywhere: each character is carrying secrets, guilt, or old wounds, and the author doesn’t brush past their pain in favor of surface-level drama. I appreciate the honesty in how the characters are written—even if sometimes their choices made me want to scream.
When things get dark, the book doesn't sugarcoat or save the characters from their worst mistakes. It’s uncomfortable in a way that makes me want to keep reading. The spice is wild—sometimes overwhelming—but for me, that adds to the relentless feeling of the story. It’s definitely more heat than plot at times, but the ride is fun.
Who Will Like This Book
If you like why-choose (reverse harem) romance, high angst, polyamorous relationships, and queerness that isn’t just hinted at, you’ll like this book. There’s male/male romance, open-door steam with almost no breaks, and a strong found family vibe. If you want lots of plot twists, broken people, and criminal underworld backdrops, this scratches that itch.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book contains explicit sexual content, kidnapping, violence, trauma, and other sensitive themes. It is for adults only—check the trigger warnings in the book before starting.
