My Wild Love Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Wild Love by Elsie Silver is the first book in the Rose Hill series. The story follows Ford Grant, a reclusive billionaire and music producer, who returns to the small town of Rose Hill to escape the glare of fame and open a recording studio. His life gets turned upside down when Cora, a twelve-year-old girl, arrives claiming to be his daughter—a result of a long-ago sperm donation. As Ford tries to navigate this new world of fatherhood, Rosie Belmont, his childhood crush and his best friend’s little sister, blows back into town after a rough patch in her life. Rosie’s looking for a reset, and she finds herself working at Ford’s studio. The two are thrown into close quarters, balancing burnt bridges and unresolved feelings, a challenging new family dynamic, and the undeniable pull between them. Set against the backdrop of small-town western Canada, Wild Love is a story about finding connection, forgiveness, and your chosen family, even when life takes unexpected turns.
Why I Love This Book
I love how this book mixes sweetness, heat, and a touch of chaos. Ford’s grumpy, introverted side feels authentic, and Rosie’s messy yet endearing energy brings out his softer parts. The “forced proximity” and “brother’s best friend” tropes add just the right amount of tension—every look or snarky comment has extra weight. The single dad angle is handled with warmth and honesty; there’s awkwardness, but also some genuinely tender moments between Ford and Cora that hit home for me. I enjoy watching Rosie help Ford figure out how to parent, and their awkward family moments made me laugh. The banter and chemistry between Ford and Rosie sizzles—it’s not just about sexual tension, but the way their history seeps into every new interaction. I also appreciate that the story doesn’t just gloss over either character’s pain—Rosie’s backstory, especially, is treated with care, and her recovery feels genuine. I really like that both main characters have their own arcs, and the small-town details give everything a sense of community. There’s a lot of heart, messy emotions, and a payoff that left me smiling.
Who Will Like This Book
If you’re into small town romance, messy family dynamics, or stories about starting over, you’ll connect with this book. Fans of grumpy/sunshine pairings, single dad drama, and unresolved childhood crushes will find a lot to love here. If you like sibling’s best friend romance, forced proximity, or dual POVs with both emotional depth and sizzling banter, this checks all those boxes. The book has some heavier topics, including past sexual assault and grief, but they’re handled gently—with a focus on healing and growth, not just trauma.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book includes references to sexual assault, loss, and mental health struggles. It’s never exploitative, but you should check warnings if these are sensitive topics for you.
