My Feathers So Vicious Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Feathers So Vicious by Liv Zander is the first book in the Court of Ravens duet. Galantia Brisden is born into privilege but never feels wanted—a daughter overshadowed by the expectations of her ruthless, power-hungry parents. Her earliest years are shaped by loss, cruelty, and the constant reminder that she was never the child they truly wanted. When Galantia is offered up in a political marriage, her journey is devastated by tragedy—a violent attack steals her from her old life and throws her into the hands of the Raven shifters, the kingdom’s feared enemies. At Deepmarsh Castle, she meets Malyr and Sebian, two raven princes whose darkness equals their pain. Galantia becomes both prisoner and pawn in a brutal world of shifting alliances, twisted magic, and impossible choices. As she fights to claim her own agency in a kingdom where trust is deadly and betrayal is everywhere, she faces raw truths about power, loyalty, and what it means to belong.
Why I Love This Book
I love how Feathers So Vicious doesn’t pretend that fairy tales are safe. This book guts every fantasy of simple heroes and happy endings. I was drawn in by Galantia’s pain and her resilience—her longing for love, even when the world only gave her violence. The themes of trauma, survival, and blurred morality hit hard. Malyr and Sebian are deeply broken, and their push-pull with Galantia is both disturbing and hypnotic. I like that the characters’ choices never feel easy or convenient; everything comes with a cost, and the tension never lets up. The story haunted me—I couldn’t stop thinking about the line between cruelty and comfort, or how hope survives in the ugliest places. The emotional impact is brutal. I cried with Galantia when she finally breaks, and I cared about her even when she was at her lowest. The writing pulls no punches—the darkness feels honest, not just for shock value. I think the rawness, the ugliness, and those tiny moments of tenderness are what make this book unforgettable for me.
Who Will Like This Book
If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that isn’t afraid to show the darkest corners of love and loyalty, this story is going to hit hard. Readers who like morally gray characters, intense psychological tension, and worlds where villains are allowed to take center stage will find a lot here. The book explores trauma, abuse, and emotional brutality—there’s nothing “safe” about the relationships, and even the few soft moments are hard-earned. If you crave stories about survival, revenge, and hard transformation, you’ll be hooked.
