My Ghost Walk Book Review - No Spoilers
Plot Summary
Ghost Walk by Cassandra Gannon weaves together mystery, magic, and romance in a story about Grace Rivera—a forensic investigator with a spell-casting, unicorn-hunting family. Grace craves normalcy, but her world spins sideways when she starts experiencing strange visions and literal time travel while investigating a murder. Her life takes a bigger turn when she meets Jamie Riordan, the ghost of a wrongly-hanged pirate from 1789 who’s haunted her historic town for centuries. Jamie needs Grace’s help to clear his name, and she’s the first living person who’s ever been able to see—and talk to—him. Together, they set out to solve a centuries-old crime, battling not just a mystery, but also family chaos, stalking threats, magical mayhem, and their growing feelings across time. But helping a ghost find peace means risking everything—her safety, her reality, and her heart.
Why I Love This Book
I absolutely love how this book is a mashup of all my favorite tropes—paranormal romance, time travel, murder mystery, and a swoony pirate hero who just happens to be a ghost. Jamie is everything: wild, loyal, hilarious, and a little possessive in a way that fits his character. Watching him and Grace bicker, flirt, and try to navigate impossible odds made me grin. Their chemistry is instant, like they belong together across centuries, and their banter is top-tier.
I’m drawn to how the story doesn’t shy away from being weird, funny, and heartfelt all at once. Grace feels real to me—grounded by her science background but thrown into situations where magic is very much real. Her journey from skepticism to acceptance really hit home, and Jamie’s yearning for justice and connection made me root for him on every page. Even the side characters—Grace’s eccentric family and Jamie’s long-lost pirate pals—stand out and add layers of warmth and chaos.
I also appreciate the way the plot balances tension and humor. There’s mystery and danger, but also genuine laugh-out-loud moments—sometimes because of a pirate’s outrage at modern life, sometimes because of magical family quirks. I usually don’t love insta-love, but here it just works. Their relationship, with its wild premise, made me suspend disbelief and just enjoy the ride. This is a story that reminds me why I love romance with a big dose of magic.
Who Will Like This Book
If you’re into paranormal romance, fated mates, time travel, or quirky found families, you’ll find something to love here. It’s perfect for readers who want a mix of mystery, magic, and romance, especially with a witty heroine and lovable, over-the-top hero. Pirate fans, magical mystery lovers, and anyone looking for a cozy but creative love story—this is your jam. There’s some danger, emotional angst, and mature content, but the overall vibe is fun and slightly bonkers in the best way.
⚠️ Trigger warning: The book contains talk of historical violence, wrongful execution, murder mystery elements, stalking, and some dark family secrets. The tone is light, but be aware of those themes.

Expect explicit, creative steam—yes, even with a ghost. The book doesn’t shy away from open-door scenes, but the focus stays on intimacy, humor, and emotional connection along with the heat.
